The Rakvere Stronghold is a theme park, which was founded by the Foundation of Virumaa Museums in 2002. Here visitors can see the everyday life a 16th century castle and can enjoy a "medieval adventure". Guests of the Rakvere Castle can dress up as knights and warriors, play games, try archery, learn about the life of people in the Middle Ages and the early modern period, join various activities and workshops (blacksmiths, candle makers, warriors, riders, etc.), visit a mini zoo (with animals from the medieval times - donkey, ducks, horse etc.).
The castle also has a wine cellar, a torture chamber, chambers of death and hell, a Red Lanterns Street, a medieval brothel, a barber's shop, and an alchemist's workshop. The Shenkenberg Tavern offers meals cooked according to medieval recipes.
