The Sataplia Nature Reserve is located in 8 km from Kutaisi. Most of the territory is covered by the Colchis Relic Forest: there are rare trees such as yews, boxwood, beech, figs and many others.
The uniqueness of the park is in the traces of dinosaurs, that are left here from about 160 million years ago. There is a museum where tourists can see the imprints of these ancient creatures.
Another important sight at Sataplia are the natural karst caves, full of stalactites and stalagmites and inhabited by bats. There is even a heart-shaped stalagmite: tourists make their wishes while standing by it. The caves are illuminated with multicolored lights. When planning a visit to the caves, it is advised to bring warm clothes, since the air is always cool inside the caves.
The observation deck with a transparent floor offers a picturesque view of the surroundings. It is possible to get to the Sataplia Nature Reserve by a shuttle bus from the center of Kutaisi.
