Uplistsikhe is a town carved in the rock, it is located in 12 kilometers from Gori.
The fate of the city is unique: it was founded in the late II - early I millennium BC, and until the XIX century it was inhabited by people. Thus, evidence of human activity for nearly 3 millennia are preserved here.
Uplistsikhe included more than 700 caves, but only about 150 remain until now. The most famous buildings are the Uplistsuli temple, the Three-nave Basilica, where, as it is believed, Queen Tamara was crowned, and the Hall of Tamara.
Now Uplistsikhe is a museum with paid entrance. A camping ground is located not far from Uplistsikhe.
