Acadia National Park is made up of a large part of Mount Desert Island and adjacent islands in the Atlantic near the coast of Maine. The park has mountains, lakes, forests, and ocean coastlines. It is situated in the transition zone between the northern boreal forest and eastern deciduous forest. The park offers two campsite locations, and on Mount Desert Island hotel lodging is available. Opportunities exist for kayaking and canoeing and birdwatching is popular. Excursions run along the ocean for the purposes of observation of certain areas.
