The Kolovesi National Park was founded 1990 and takes up 47 sq. km of territory. The park occupies two large island - the Vaajasalo and Mäntysalo, the most well-known landmark of the park is the Ukonvuori cliff, which bears ancient rock-paintings from 5000 years ago.
The park is best explored from the water, there are routes of various difficulty, the use of motor boats is prohibited in the park. The two marked nature trails are equipped with campfire sites, firewood and dry toilets. It is also possible to rent wooden huts in the parks, which can sleep 4-6 people.
The park is a home to a rare species of ringed seals. Access to its habitat is restricted.
