The Bird Park in Villars-les-Dombes (Parc des oiseaux Villars-les-Dombes) is located in approximately 40 km from Lyon, and is considered to be the largest bird sanctuary in France. The park occupies an area of 35 hectares, and a mini-train runs through its territory.
The park is home to approximately 300 species of birds from different continents. The park recreates the natural environments of birds and there are no cages. Visitors can hand feed the Lori parrots, see an aerial birds show with the participation of pelicans, cranes, and hornbills.
The park has picnic areas, as well as restaurants, cafes, and playgrounds for children. Visitors can also stay for the night at the Le Nid du Parc camping, which is located in just 500 meters from the Sanctuary.
