The Montenvers Train takes visitors to the Mer de Glace glacier from the Chamonix valley. The railway started operation in 1908. The track is over 5 km long and the journey takes about 20 minutes, taking passengers 871 meters up, going over bridges and through tunnels, finally arriving at the foot of the famous Mer de Glace glacier (1,913 meters above sea level). At the top, visitors can enjoy a meal at the legendary Montenvers restaurant, visit the Ice Cave or the Glaciorium museum.
The train does not run from September to mid December. There are family tickets available, please check timetable and prices at the official website of the train.
