The Abastumani Observatory is the first Soviet astrophysical observatory. It was built in 1932 on the Meskhetian ridge near the Abastumani resort. It is believed that the local clear sky is good for the astronomical research.
The observatory is still working, and guided tours for children and adults take place there. When the weather is fine, it is possible to look into a professional telescope - the 40-inch refractor. Day, evening and night tours are available.
Tourists can get to the observatory by car.
