Chiatura is an industrial town founded in 1921 on the site of the manganese deposit, in 220 km by rail from Tbilisi.

The main transportation here are cablecars: the altitude drops between different districts of Chiatura is more than 100 meters. There are 5 lines of passenger cablecars. A picturesque view of the city center and the valley of the Kvirila river opens up from the cableways.
