Sighnaghi, town in Kakheti region, Alazani Valley, Georgia 998
Sighnaghi is a popular tourist desination in the region of Kakheti, Georgia. The town is located in about 100 km from the capital city of Tbilisi, and is mostly famous for its mountain views of the Alazani Valley.
The town also offers the following landmarks:
- the St. George church with an elegant bell tower;
- the walls of the ancient Sighnaghi fortress with a walkway on top;
- a museum with various historical artifacts and paintings by Niko Pirosmani and Lado Gudiashvili;
- observation deck at the top of the tower of the small St. Stephen church;
- renovated sreets and squares.
Sighnaghi is home to a number of hotels, restaurants, and wine shops. In two kilometers from Sighnaghi lies the Saint Nino Monastery (or the Bodbe monastery), where it is possible to plunge into the spring of Saint Nino and also collect water from it.
Sighnaghi can be reached by a bus from Tbilisi, which leaves from a stops near the Samgori Metro station.
