The Colosseum ancient amphitheatre is one of the best-known monuments in the world and the largest amphitheatre in history. Construction of the Colosseum was finished in AD 80.
In the ancient times the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and (usually cruel) shows. Today it is an important landmark and a museum. The admission fee is charged at the entrance (with some exceptions).
