Where to go to control robots and visit a space station in Moscow? In what Moscow museums is it possible to conduct independent scientific experiments? Our review encompasses tours, workshops and shows where visitors become active participants, and can even play with the exhibits.

 

 

Interactive space tours for kids in Moscow

In the Museum of cosmonautics, they do tours especially for schoolchildren. They narrate “Space Tales” to them and organize an adventure called Space for Kids, during which you can see inside real spaceships.   

They hold a “Training Course” for life on an orbiting station on the tour I’m Going to Be a Spaceman and they acquaint children with rocket engine devices at Rockets and How They’re Made. Older schoolchildren are told funny stories from the astronauts’ travels on A Smile from Space and on a tour called Flying in Space they show a 3D movie on the international space station.

You can touch various “space” objects on the two floors of the Lunarium at the Moscow Planetarium. At an exhibition called Astronomy and Physics, kids have the opportunity to ride space bikes and look into a black hole. At an exhibition called Grasping Space kids end up in a Lunar Laboratory on an international space station, send signals to aliens, and observe stars through telescopes.

You can organize a tour for children 5 years and older in interactorium Mars-Tefo in the All-Russian Exhibition Center. Kids between the age of 5 and 10 are sent off to a Martian station, explore the red planet, put a rocket together, and extract the “local” minerals. As for schoolchildren between the age of 10 and 15 they do a Martian Adventure. Teenagers older than 16 years old are recommended to go on the Mars 2050 mission and save the planet from destruction together with android robots.

Kids tours with science experiments in Moscow

You can check out a thermal scanner, climb into the cabin of a truck, and put together your own band in Experimentanium. In the halls there you will have to rack your brain on a multitude of conundrums and then get lost in a labyrinth. Open until September 2013 there is an interactive “mushroom” exhibit there in the form of a forest meadow with grass below your feet and a hug tree.

At InnoPark interactive exhibition, they let you touch, open, turn on, and start up exhibits. Every half hour they do demonstration tours around the exhibition with “experienced” exhibits, after which you came create a wave all by yourself or find yourself in a big soap bubble.

You can control robots and mold a cartoon out of plastic at Eureka Park. There they teach you how to take fingerprints, find the password to spy combinations, and perform safe experiments with chemical reactants. It’s worth nothing that from July 1 to September 1, 2013, the only exhibition open for children in Eureka Park is Summer Forest Camp.

Miracle of Science interactive show takes place in the Panopticon of Science Entertainment in hall No. 9 of the All-Russian Exhibition Center. Throughout the course of the tour, kids are aided by the Nutty Professor in performing gravity, mercury thermometer, fire, and smoke experiments. Also operating in Panopticon are wooden models of inventions by Leonardo da Vinci, such as the catapult, helicopter, bicycle, and even a middle age “tank”.

Interactive history museums for kids in Moscow

On a tour around MosFilm Museum, you can position yourself on a real movie set and catch a glimpse of foam decorations of Old Moscow, old-time automobiles, weapons, and dresses that were used in movies. The also reveal the secrets of stage make-up and show you a scene from Soviet horror film Viy with moving figures.

In the Moscow Underground Museum at Sportivnaya underground station, you can sit in the seat of a train engineers and see a real dispatcher panel that regulates the motion of trains. The exhibition also features working models of a vintage ticket gate and escalator and you can watch people arrive at the electric train station as well.

You can test your strength at Onion muscle-meter and vanquish enemy ships in Battleship at the Soviet Game Machine Museum. Included at the exhibition are 40 game machines where you can play racing and shooting games of the last century. Then after the game you can get yourself a soda out of the vending machine.

 

Literature tours in Moscow for kids

They do nine different thematic tours at Buratino Pinocchio Museum in Izmaylovo. There you can become acquainted with Buratino, Malvina, and Papa Carlo; take a Journey around Buratino Land; and find yourself in the Magical Kingdom of Andersen. On the theatrical tours, kids become the actors of puppet theater themselves and perform a real show using puppets.

Open in hall No. 8 of the All-Russian Exhibition Center is Jili-Bili Fairy Tale House where they organize tours of Russian and foreign fairy tales. Along with Snow White, kids sing German songs, help Vasilisa find a magic ring, help and Cinderella get ready for the ball. In the fairy tale house, children “tame” Dragon Gorynych, try on warrior armor, and help Fedora cope with her grief.

They do tours for schoolchildren in Bulgakov Museum. In the afternoon, employees take kids on walks around the Patriarch Ponds and the places Bulgakov used to spend his time and in the evening they tell mysterious stories about the writer and the Bad Apartment. Located in the same building is the House of Bulgakov where they organize street train, bus, and pedestrian tours for older schoolchildren and adults around the places Bulgakov used to spend time and some of them start in the evening.
