What is there to check out and do with my kids in Kharabovsk? Kids museums in Kharabovsk

Kharabovsk Arts Museum of the Far East

Also referred to as the Far East Tretyakova museum, this Far East arts museum features a collection of canvases worked on by Russian and European artists as well as variety of ancient weapons. Also exhibited annually in the museum are professional paintings, graphics, sculptures, and folk art from all over the globe.

Kharabovsk Far East Natural History Museum in the Name of N.I. Grodekov

This museum is possibly the largest and the oldest in the Far East. The exhibits tell stories of the life and development of the Far East, describe the flora and the fauna of the region, and also provide interesting information on the paleontology and geology of the Amur River Region. Operating there is a program called Kids Museum for kids at least two years old and parents, comprised of interactive tours in costumes and games.

Kharabovsk KDVO Military History Museum

Not only will children get to see weapons here, they will also get to see various elements of how soldiers used to live during war times and see how their uniforms changed over the years. Part of the exhibits are located outside the museum as well.

Kharabovsk Archeology Museum

This exhibition tells you about the history of the Krai and as well as about the ancient indigenous cultures there. Fragments of ancient weapons are also collected there as long as various elements of daily life. The guides will tell you about the life, legends, and traditions of the people who lived there on the territory of the Amur River Region thousands of years ago. Exhibited in the area surrounding the museum building are replicas of petroglyphs (images chiseled out of rock) from Sikachi-Alyan.   

Kharabovsk City History Museum

While walking through the halls of the museum, you’ll be able to see how the image of the city, the people, and the atmosphere there has changed over time. You can see old photographs there, atlases mapping the layout of streets, and elements of the Kharabovsk residents’ daily life in different eras. Part of the exhibits have been given to the museum by residents of Kharabovsk, which means that it’s not only a museum of the history of the city, yet instead encompasses the various families who decides to connect their lives to it.

 

 

Kharabovsk Far East Railroad Museum (FERM)

In this museum, you have the chance of acquainting yourself with the history of the construction of the Ussuriiski railroad (Vladivostok-Kharabovsk) as a part of the Great Siberian Road (the famous Trans Siberian Highway). The museum features documents, photographs, and objects reflecting the railroad’s construction and course of development, also referred to as the Amur Wonder, an enormous bridge over the Amur. The museum also provides classes for students of Kharabovsk Railroad College.

 

Places to take your kid for a walk in Kharabovsk: gardens and parks

Kharabovsk Regional Park in the name of N.N. Muravyov-Amursky

You can enjoy a wonderful view of the Amur River and the bridge built over it at Kharabovsk Regional Park. You can also rent roller blades or a bike there and go for a winded ride along the embankment.

 

 

Dynamo Culture and Recreational Park in Kharabovsk

In the summer, you can hide from the scorching sun in the shade under the trees, listen to live music, and go for a ride on a pair of roller blades or a bike in Dynamo Park. In the winter, this park turns into a snow town with ice figures, slides, and a skating rink.

 

 

Kharabovsk City Ponds

The City Ponds are a place where you can pump the pedals of a catamaran, take pictures with the characters of your favorite cartoons (The Bremen Town Musicians, Wait Up!, Gena the Crocodile, Winnie Pooh, and Vacation in Prostokvashino), and hang out with an ice cream and listen to a concert. On the holidays, you can also watch a laser show at the City Ponds too.

 

 

Amur Regional Zoo Garden in the Name of V.P. Sysoev

Amur Bay tigers, white-chested bears, lynxes, foxes, and raccoons, the true keepers of the taiga, take guests at the Amur Regional Zoo Garden. There is a polar bear living there that used to work in a circus and would now love to take a bow after an applause.

 

Entertainment and attractions for kids in Kharabovsk

Kharabovsk Children’s Park in the Name of A.P. Gaydar

This is a park for kids: attractions, ice cream shops, cotton candy, and popcorn. In Arlekin Entertainment Center there, you can laugh at your reflection in the warped mirrors, play bowling, and watch a movie in 5D.

Kharabovsk City Cultural and Recreational Park in the Name of Y. Gagarin

At one time, Yury Gagarin himself planted a larch in this park. Of course, nobody remembers anymore where exactly he planted it. Currently located in the park is Kharabovsk Stationary Circus and located in the area in front of the circus are attractions for kids: blow-up trampolines, trains, and race cars. In the winter the whole area turns into a skating rink.  

Prize games and a movie theater in Joy Mall in Kharabovsk

While shopping in Joy Mall, you can take a break on the fourth floor where they have a movie theater called The Dream Factory and video game machines as well.

Arlekin Multicenter in Kharabovsk

After checking out your reflection in the “warped mirrors” and playing kids bowling, you can stop by Sun City Family Café located on the second floor of Arlekin.

Mowgli Kids Entertainment Center in Kharabovsk

Where can you go swing on a suspension bridge? In Mowgly Entertainment Center. There you can wander around a labyrinth, ride down a slide into a ball pit, sing karaoke, and express yourself in a drawing.

 

Kids theaters in Kharabovsk

Kharabovsk Regional Youth Theater

In Kharabovsk Regional Youth Theater are both shows for kids and adults. This theater is not only a home for fairy tales, but also the home of a project known as A Night in the Theater.

 

 

Kharabovsk Regional Puppet Theater

When approaching the theater, it’s easy to realize what kind of a theater it is: big puppets are looking out of the windows at the passers-by. The puppet shows at the Kharabovsk theater are performed in a cozy, little hall with the capacity to seat 70 people. 

Kharabovsk Regional Drama and Comedy Theater

Performed on the stage of this “adult” theater are shows for kids: there is Aladdin who comes out with a magic lamp; 12 Months; and Ellie, Totoshka, and friends.

Kharabovsk Regional Music Theater

Also included in the theater’s repertoire are rock operas, retro musicals, classical operettas, opera comedies, proverb shows, and kids music shows. Amongst the theater’s kids shows are: kids musical Thumbelina, musical fairy tale The Boldly Buzzing Fly, rock opera The Phantom of the Old Pirate, musical fairy tale Bluebird, musical detective story Treasures of Brazil, and ballet story extravaganza “Nutcracker or the Story Ball”.   

 

 

Kharabovsk Regional Philharmonia

Kharabovsk Regional Philharmonia is considered one of the best concert halls in the Far East. One interesting thing about this place is that the decorative plasterwork on the building’s facades was done by captive artists from Austria-Hungary during the First World War. The Kharabovskaya philharmonia currently has two halls: a large hall with the capacity to seat 450 people and a smaller one with the capacity to seat 100 people. One unique object in the philharmonia’s possession is an electric organ.  

 

Kharabovsk movie theaters for kids

Sovkino Movie Theater in Kharabovsk

While going for a walk in the Kharabovsk city center, you can stop by the oldest movie theater in the Far East, which used to be called Grand Illusion at one time, then it changed to Mirage, and now it is eloquently called Sovkino. Along with changing its name, the equipment in the theater has changed as well: now you can watch movies in 2D and 3D format as well.

 

 

Giant Movie Theater in Kharabovsk city center

Located in the center of Kharabovsk is the biggest movie theater in the Far East with five halls and also the opportunity to watch movies in 2D, 3D, and even 4D. During the school holiday period, “Giant” not only shows new movies for kids, but popular “classics” as well.

 

 

Majestic Movie Theater in Kharabovsk

Red and Blue are the colors that the two halls are painted in at Majestic. This theater is small, but convenient with comfortable chairs located on the fifth floor of NK City Mall.

Hollywood Movie Theater in Kharabovsk

You don’t have to fly to Los Angeles to get to Hollywood. All you have to do for that is just buy a couple of tickets for a show time at Hollywood Movie Theater in Kharabovsk

 

 

Friendship Movie Theater in Kharabovsk

This movie theater has once again opened up its door after renovation in 2008.

Hunters Lodge Drive-in in Kharabovsk 

This drive-in is located out of town on the territory of Plusina Hunters Lodge. Before watching a movie outside there, you can go for a bike ride, roller blade, or start up a tailgate party.

 

Places to grab a bite with your kids in Kharabovsk

You can try out some sweet, filling, Russian “blins” (Russian crepes) in the Kharabovsk café chain called Blin. Instead of going to McDonald’s, in Kharabovsk you can stop by Golden Birdie fast food chain where there are kids rooms, slides, and multi-color ball pits. Senior Pomidor (tomato) Pizza Chain has comfortable couches, nice music, and a bit of an Italian theme in the interior. You can stop by Baskin Robbins for ice cream in Kharabovsk and there is a good choice of cakes and pies offered at the specialized kids café in Sun City in Arlekin Youth Center. 

 

Kharabovsk city holidays for kids

Day of the City – May 31st

The last day of May is awaited by Kharabovsk residents not only because it marks the beginning of the long-awaited summer. May 31st, 1858 happened to be the day that Kharabovka military post was established, which eventually turned into the capital of the Far East – Kharabovsk. During this day, concerts are held in Kharabovsk along with open air parties and when it gets dark, the people gather round the foot of a cliff to witness a beautiful firework show.  

Maslenitsa in Kharabovsk: the best places to go for Maslenitsa in Kharabovsk (during February-March)

Open air parties are organized in Kharabovsk in all districts of the city. Each has its own square, forest park zone, yard, or entertainment center where they hold competitions, games, bake “blins” (Russian crepes), sing songs, and finish their ceremony with the traditional burning of the Maslenitsa effigy.

“A Night in the Museum” (during July-June)

Museums are sometimes associated with academic quiet and strict supervisors. A worldwide phenomenon called “A Night in the Museum”, however, which is currently going on in Kharabovsk as well, is capable of changing that notion with these new night shows presenting them in a new light.  

“A Night in the Theater” (June)

The art project called “A Night in the Theater” has been hosted by the Kharabovsk Youth Theater since 2009. During this beloved amongst students phenomenon, you could end up behind the curtains of a stage, enjoy experimental projects, and participate in unusual street shows as well. 

New Year Trees (during December-January)

The main New Year’s Tree in Kharabovsk has traditionally been stood up every year on Lenin Square with ice sculptures around it. Also walking around the icy town that the square turns into are Grandpa Frost and Snegurochka.
