Things to See and Best Places to Visit with Kids in Kazan, Russia

What museums in Kazan can you find science shows in? What Kazan park can you go visit to have a ride on a kids railroad? Where can you go feed and pet a rabbit or a sheep? Our review tells you it all –from kids theaters, to museums, to attraction parks, all the way up to water attractions and other places of interest in Kazan, where you can spend time with your whole family. 

 

Kazan Museums for Kids

You can find out plenty about the middle age history of the city in the Kazan Kremlin. There you can see how the city was from the 10th to the 16th century, the stone-brick Kremlin during the 16th-18th centuries, and constructions that came afterwards, the “falling” Soyembika and the tombs of the Tatar khans. Open in the museum complex are historical and art expositions and also located on the territory of the Kazan Kremlin it the Kul Sharif mosque

 

 

You can get a closer look at Muslim history at the Museum of Islamic Culture in the Kul Sharif mosque. The museum employees will tell you where it came from and how Islam spread into Tatarstan, they’ll show you a model of the Islamic holy relics, Caabas, as well as different editions of the Koran and old coins, and they’ll explain to you why Muslims need a compass.  

Natural History Museum of Tatarstan is also located in the Kazan Kremlin. Presented inside it are casts of dinosaurs, mammoth skeletons, and the skull of a saber tooth tiger. On the first floor, you can check out a collection of minerals and find out about cosmic events, on the second floor you can learn about evolution of life on Earth, and on Sundays they put together a science show in the museum. 

 

 

In The 1000-Year Museum of Kazan, you can find out about the history of the city since ancient times. The exhibition includes restored historical objects like the old Kazan gates for examples and a key to the city as well as a weapon collection, coins, and even treasures from the Kaban Lake. While on a tour, they’ll tell you about the history of Kazan during the khans’ invasion, Russian czars, and soviet power. After visiting this museum, you can go for a walk down an avenue along the shore of the Kazanka River. 

And in The Way of the Socialist Museum on the other hand, you can stop by an old communist apartment of the 1970s-1980s. There they have expositions of Soviet toys, school and pioneer attributes, tours on achievements in sports and mastery of space exploration, fashion, and music in the USSR. On Sundays, the museum hosts concert parties.

 

Kazan Children’s Theaters

Musical performances for the whole family and school program shows can be seen at the Kazan Youth Theater. There they even put on classical plays on the works by Gogol, Ostrovsky, Shakespeare, and Moliere as well as modern-day pieces, such as the short story “Oscar and the Pink Lady”.

 

 

In Ekiat Puppet Theater, they put on performances in Russian and Tatar. There you can sit back and watch fairy tales about Buratino, Schelkunchik, Ali Baba, The Jumping Princess, Alena’s Flower, and Flower-Seven-Flower in a theater repertoire of over 40 different children’s shows.  

With a little bit older kids you can go to the Youth Theater at Bulaka. Here there are plays by Chekhov, Hemmingway, Zoschenko, and Grishkovets, but there are also shows designed for children of 7 and older, for example comedy “Once upon a Time Lived a Pioneer Named Laptev”.

 

 

Kazan Parks. Attractions in Kazan 

Kyrlay Park is open in the city center, on the shore of the Kazanka River. In the summer there, you can have a ride on extreme of family roller coasters. You can also have a look at the city from 55 meters in the air out of a Ferris wheel cabin. Another thing you can do in Kyrlay Park is hop on a trampoline, floor it down a race track, and play paintball. 

You can check out some military technology at Victory Park. Displayed at an avenue are tanks and weaponry used to protect against tanks, howitzers, airplanes, helicopters, and even a rocket complex. In Victory Park, you can go for a ride on a horse or hang out at a summer café as well as rent a bicycle somewhere.

In The 1000-Year Park of Kazan, you can go for a walk through the avenues paved out with stone. There you’ll find the “Basket Hall” arena and a fountain named “Kazan” with zilant dragons that people throw coins into and make a wish. 

 

 

From May up until October, you can gaze at the Cascade Fountains at Theater Square in the Name of Kamal. In the evening they organize light music shows and you can see the water fountain on Nizhny Kaban Lake from there too. 

You can for a ride on The Children’s Railroad in sylvan park Lebyazhye in West Kazan. A route with a length of 4.5 km is extended between stations Molodyozhnaya and Izumrudnaya. In 23 minutes of track time, a train called Raduga intersects 2 passages and you get a nice view out of the train cars of the lake and the forest. The Children’s Railroad in Kazan operates from the beginning of June up to the end of August from Wednesday to Sunday.  

 

 

Kazan Zoo

Kazan Botanical Zoo Garden is open year round. There you can ogle at lions, tigers, leopards, polar bears, camels, hippos, monkeys, and birds. Crocodiles, lizards, snakes, and turtles live in the reptile house and assembled in the green house are tropical and Mediterranean plants. Growing there are magnolias, palm trees, and a real “candy tree”. In the summer there, a petting zoo opens called Lukomorye with goats, chickens, turtles, and squirrels. Other than them, there is a pond next to them where swans and pelicans get to swim. Meanwhile, if they like, children can go play on swings and slides.     

 

 

One more place in Kazan where you can pet animals is The Petting Zoo on Peterburgskaya 9. At this exhibition, you can hold rabbits, chicks, guinea pigs, and piglets in your hands. You can also feed goats and sheep and take a picture with an emu ostrich. The zoo is open every day and they do tours for children with funny stories from the lives of the caretakers. 

 

Kids Entertainment Centers in Kazan 

Open in Boulevard on Peterburgsksaya Mall is Entertainment Center Deyfi, where you can find a raceway with go carts, prize games, auto and motorcycle simulators, water machines, air hockey and basketball. If you can't take your kids with you somewhere, you can leave your children over 2 years for a couple of hours in a labyrinth with slides or you can take the whole family bowling. 

There are similar forms of entertainment, such as simulators, video games, and swings for children as well in Fun City Entertainment Center in Kazan. Children of up to 7 years can climb around in the Kinder City labyrinth. There is also a café there with a kids menu. 

 

 

Racing simulators, shooting galleries, mini bowling, and sports game machines entailing sharp turns as well as other types of entertainment for all ages can be found in the Kazan Crazy Park. A labyrinth is open with slides for preschoolers and the children can go for a ride on mini merry-go-rounds and small machines. 

In Dinoplanet center, you can play video games and go for a ride along with dinosaur Danny in the Entertainment Constellation. There is a two-level labyrinth open for children with slides and a waterless pool as well as a room just for moms and their child (for children up to 3 years). You can have lunch or celebrate your kid’s birthday in Dinoplanet’s kids café. 

You can take any kids one year or older to Tigra Game Center in Bahetle Mall. There your child can hop on the trampoline, play in a waterless pool, climb around in a two-level labyrinth, and go down the slides. In the game and exercise room, there’s also a drawing area and a soft zone for small children. On the weekend, children get entertained by animators. 

 

Kazan Water Parks

Year round, you can take your kids to Riviera Water Park. There you can find over 50 attractions for all ages: speed tracks for adults, family water slides with tubes and a kids zone in the form of a pirate fort. For those who prefer more quiet recreation, a spa zone is open with saunas, a water bar, and a river with a slow current. For divers, there is a deep pool and even in the winter time people go swimming in the big open heated pool.  

In the Baryonix Water Park, there are 10 slides for the whole family and a kids complex with 3 attractions. There you can dive into a three meter pool, get shoved around in a wave pool, and for children there is a “paddling pool”, which is heated and The Little Octopus with tentacle-slides. You can warm up and relax in the jacuzzi and the sauna and you can also pull a net over the pool and play volleyball.
