Caminito del Rey, the king's path or the Royal Path in Malaga, Spain 2 565
Show on map
The Royal Trail (El Caminito del Rey) is a scenic, 7.7 km long walking trail pinned along the steep walls of a narrow El Chorro gorge in Malaga province.
Prior to reopening after reconstruction in 2015, the path was considered to be one of the most dangerous trails in the world. After the major makeover, the route can now welcome children over 8 years old. It still passes through suspension bridges, tunnels, steps cut out cliffs and forest, but now all open areas have protective fences installed.
It is possible to walk along the path independently or as part of an excursion group (tours are conducted in Spanish and English) from 09:30 to 17:30 (the latest start at 14:30). The route is not circular, the average visit time is 3-4 hours; tourists are advised to bring food and water with them.
The trail is closed on Mondays, December 24, 25, 31 and January 1, as well as in bad weather. It is recommended to check the current conditions on the official website or phone. Tickets can be bought in advance at the official website. Optional bus service is available from the El Chorro railway station.
