The Kelham Island Museum was opened in 1982 in an old industrial district of Sheffield. Visitors can see pictures, archival materials and other objects that reveal the industrial history of Sheffield. Interactive galleries of the museum tell how the city experienced the industrial revolution, as the steelmaking industry developed during the Victorian era and during the world wars, and how it is today.
The museum has a special area for kids with a ball pit and the Melting Shop Play Area. There is also the Little Mesters family cafe. The new Steam Hammer Café offers a wide range of food and drinks.
