The Meatpacking District is located on the far west side of Manhattan, in New York City. In 2015 the Meatpacking District became the new home of the Whitney Museum of modern and contemporary American art. There are numerous shops, hotels, restaurants and cafes, as well as a number of cultural venues: the Atlantic Theater Company, the Blank Space contemporary art gallery, the Chisholm Gallery of vintage advertising posters, the Fort Gansevoort with an art gallery, the Highline Ballroom venue with 400 seats, the Highline Stages, the Industria space for photo shoots and events, the Ivy Brown Gallery for contemporary art, the Museum of Ice Cream, the Gallery at Reinstein|Ross, the Standard Plaza with year-round happenings, the White Columns alternative art space, and many more.
The American museum of natural history is located next to the Central Park and consists of 25 buildings, in which 46 permanent exhibitions are held. The museum was founded in 1869. There is a planetarium, a huge collection of zoological items, several cafes and a lot of gift shops on the territory of the museum. Visitors can choose an excursion among the following: whales, Theodore Roosevelt, dinosaurs, fossils, the Earth and the Space, Night in the Museum and others. Special programs for families and school groups are also available.
