The Meatpacking District is located on the far west side of Manhattan, in New York City. In 2015 the Meatpacking District became the new home of the Whitney Museum of modern and contemporary American art. There are numerous shops, hotels, restaurants and cafes, as well as a number of cultural venues: the Atlantic Theater Company, the Blank Space contemporary art gallery, the Chisholm Gallery of vintage advertising posters, the Fort Gansevoort with an art gallery, the Highline Ballroom venue with 400 seats, the Highline Stages, the Industria space for photo shoots and events, the Ivy Brown Gallery for contemporary art, the Museum of Ice Cream, the Gallery at Reinstein|Ross, the Standard Plaza with year-round happenings, the White Columns alternative art space, and many more.
The Meatpacking District regularly hold various events for families with kids. Free Wifi is available throughout the district. The district is looking forward to the developments of Pier 57 and 54 and the addition of 600,000 square feet of commercial real estate.
