The Aulanko Nature Reserve is the oldest park in Tavastia (founded in 1930) and also the first national urban park in Finland. The Scenic Lookout Tower at the Aulangonvuori Hill was built in 1907 by the architect Valdemar Aspelin.
The tower has more than 200 steps and takes visitors to the height of 150 meters above sea level, where they can see the beautiful Swan Lake (Joutsenjärvi) and its surroundings. There is a cafe in a villa by the base of the tower. The park is also famous for its caves, Egyptian park, and many hiking, biking, and ski trails. Visitors are allowed to pick berries and mushrooms and go fishing (a fishing license is required).
