The Bothnian Bay National Park was founded in 1991, it takes up 157 sq. km of territory, only 2.5 sq. km of which is land, there are about 30 Bothnian Bay islands of glacial origin. The best way to explore the park is by boat, which can be rented at one of the nearest towns (Kemi and Tornio). It is also possible to go diving in the park. In winter, it is possible to get to the nearest islands over the ice, on foot or snowmobiles.
The Selkä-Saari island has a campground. Visitors of the park can see seals, arctic birds, and some endangered plants. The Kalajoki Visitor Center is located at the following address: Jukupolku 5.
