The Helvetinjärvi National Park was established in 1982, it takes up 50 sq. km of territory, mostly covered by forests, narrow canyons, mountainous hills, rugged cliffs and lakes. The main attraction of the park is the Helvetinkolu gorge (Hell's Hole), located in the Southeastern part of the Helvetinjärvi lake (Hell's Lake). The terrain of the park is the result of movements in the Earth's crust millions of years ago.
