The Itis used to bear the name of Itäkeskus, and it is deemed the largest shopping center in Northern Europe. The center opened back in 1984. Itis is a home to over 150 stores, a number of cafes and restaurants, offers free parking (upto 3000 cars). The center was completely renovated in 2011 - 2014 and since 2015 Itis has a special kids' play area called Leikkiasema.
Right next to Itis there is the Tallinnanaukio Square, which works mainly in the summer, selling vegetables, berries, bread and pastries. The outdoor serving area also serves coffee and ice cream, among other things. Market sellers are at the square on weekdays approximately from 9:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 18:00.
