Church Park, or Kirkkopuisto is one of Jyväskylä's oldest green spaces, with construction starting in the early 19th century. When Jyväskylä was founded in 1837, the park initially served as a marketplace, a role it held from the 1830s until the 1930s.

At the heart of the market square, Jyväskylä City Church—the first stone church in Central Finland—was built in 1880, adding to the park's historical significance.
