The Lampivaara amethyst mine is located in Pyhä-Luosto, Finnish Lapland. The deposit was formed about 2 000 000 years ago. Today, there is a special gem mine at the top of a hill. The mine is expected to be sustained for hundreds of years. Kids and adults are invited to visit the mine and to try amethyst mining themselves.

There is a 2-3 km hike to the mine from the parking lot. Upon arrival at Lampivaara all visitors are served with fresh berry juice. The guided tour touches up on the fascinating geology and history of Lampivaara and the beautiful stone amethyst itself. Participants of the tour can dig up their own lucky stones from the mine and pay a visit to the small shop with amethyst souvenirs. The tour lasts about 1 hour.

The tickets are sold at the Lampivaara café and there is no need to book tickets in advance. The mine is open during the summer and winter, the current timetable can be found at the official website.
