Malmitalo is the cultural center of Northern and North-Eastern Helsinki. Various events, theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, as well as film screenings for children and adults take place here.

The building also houses the Malmi Library and the Helsinki Adult Education Center, as well as four arts schools: the Helsinki Dance Institute, the Art School of Northern Helsinki, the Handwork School of Taito for Children and the Music Institute of Northern Helsinki. The guests of Malmitalo also have free access to the exhibitions held at the Malmitalo gallery. There is a cafe on the territory of the center. The movie theater runs movies and cartoons for children.
