Pulkkilanharju or the Pulkkilan ridge (Pulkkilanharju luontopolku) is an ice-age formation that nowadays is a good spot for observing the migratory birds and for going on a 4.4 km long nature trail. The ridge, the lake, and the Karisalmi bridge are all located in the Päijänne National Park.
Pulkkilanharju may be a good example of effectively harmonizing manmade structures and nature. The nature trail does not have any designated places for starting a camp fire, but does offer some picnic opportunities. The Parking lot is located next to the bridge. There is also a dog-friendly cafe, with its own parking lot, that welcomes visitors during the summer season. The ridge can be reached in under a two-hour drive from Helsinki.
