The Sibelius House is a museum, devoted to the early life of the great Finnish composer Jan Sibelius (1865-1957) in Hämeenlinna (Tavastia province). The composer was born in Hämeenlinna and spent the first 20 years of his life here. The Sibelius House is located in the center of the city and was open to the general public in the 1960s. Here visitors can see personal belongings, documents, photographs and furniture belonging to the composer.
The building itself was built in 1834, and after renovation in 2007 it now has the "bedroom of young Jan". The interior of the house was historically recreated.
The Sibelius House Museum is part of the Historical Museum of Hämeenlinna, which organizes research and exhibition activities in Tavastia, and is responsible for the management of the Häme Castle, as well as of four cultural and historical sites: the Prison Museum, the Sibelius House, Palander House, and the Säästöpankki Savings Bank Museum".
