The Tank Museum is located in a 25-minute drive from Hämeenlinna (the capital of the Tavastia region), it is a specialized military and historical museum that collects, saves, investigates, and exhibits to the public the history of Finnish tank and anti-tank units. The central theme of the museum is the history of the development of armored forces of independent Finland and their technical equipment, starting with the first tanks, purchased in 1919 Renault F.T. Modele 1917.
The Tank Museum is founded as a tribute to the memory of and respect to the Finnish Soldier and offers a historical description of the actions of the Finnish tank units (in particular the Tank Division) in battles against superior enemy forces during the wars of the first half of the 20th century.
The museum seeks to convey to visitors information about the feat of the Finnish soldier, who did the impossible, given the superiority of the enemy.
The museum cafe, serves drinks and snacks, as well as sells museum brochures, books and tank-themed souvenirs. Groups are kindly asked to book tours in advance. Tours can also be organized in Russian, Swedish or English.
Opening Hours:
From May 1 to September 30, the museum is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
From 1 October to 31 December and from 1 January to 30 April - only on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00.
For the Christmas week and Juhannus day (Midsummer) - the museum is closed. The cafe does not work the entire month of April.
