Tulliniemi Nature Trail in Hanko, continental Finland’s most southernmost point 42
The Tulliniemi Nature Trail is a marked 6.7 km roundtrip route leading to the southernmost tip of continental Finland. The trail winds through protected coastal landscapes, pine forests, and rocky shores, offering views of the open sea and diverse birdlife.
The final section of the path is more challenging, requiring balance across uneven rocks and is not suitable for strollers, young children, and people with limited mobility.
Historically, the Hanko Peninsula has held strategic importance: control of the area meant control of the Gulf of Finland. In the 20th century, Hanko was leased to the Soviet Union as a naval base after the Winter War, and during the Continuation War, German troops maintained a lodge in Tulliniemi. Later the peninsula served as a women's prison camp.
The trail begins near the Port of Hanko and from a spacious free Tulliniemen parking lot.
