"What Happens Next?" is the first exhibition of the newly opened Moomin Museum in Tampere. The exhibition presents all twelve Moomin books written and illustrated by Tove Jansson. Jansson’s original texts are featured alongside the illustrations. The residents of Moominvalley are introduced in detail in the character gallery, but it is also possible to find them hiding around the museum.

Overall, the exhibition features almost 400 original Moomin illustrations and around 30 tableaux (three-dimensional Moomin tableaux by her partner, the graphic artist Tuulikki Pietilä) selected from the Tampere Art Museum Moominvalley Collection. The pride and centrepiece of the exhibition is the five-storey, three-metre-high blue Moominhouse

Guests of the museum can also crawl into the Magician’s hat, stand in a snowstorm on a glacier, and watch a fiery comet streak across the night sky. The unique colour scheme of the exhibition is based on Jansson’s original illustrations for The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My.

The Tampere Hall (which houses the new Moomin Museum) is also a home to a Moomin souvenir shop and a kids-friendly restaurant with Moomin specials.

Photo-review of the Moomin Museum in Tampere Hall, Finland (50)

The Moomin Museum in Tampere is a magical and fairytale place, and most importantly - it is an art museum. On two floors, covered with soft carpets and lit with dim lights, visitors can see the original illustrations and covers from the different editions of Tove Jansson's books. The exhibition follows the Moomin family from story to story, and it is possible to listen to excerpts from books in 5 languages (Finnish, Swedish, English, Japanese and Russian).
