The Moomin Museum in Tampere is a magical and fairytale place, and most importantly - it is an art museum. On two floors, covered with soft carpets and lit with dim lights, visitors can see the original illustrations and covers from the different editions of Tove Jansson's books. The exhibition follows the Moomin family from story to story, and it is possible to listen to excerpts from books in 5 languages (Finnish, Swedish, English, Japanese and Russian).

The museum guides - dressed in green tops - are happy to help visitors in a number of languages, and multilingual exhibition guide books are available to all guests as well. Kids can enjoy some interactive exhibition pieces, such as the Hattifatteners, who release electricity when touched, or giant Moomintroll books that can be climbed into, and the magician's black hat which momentarily turns children into weird and unexpected monsters.

Various arts and crafts workshops are regularly held at the museum. Unless the workshops are reserved for a private group, all visitors can participate in them free of charge. Children's birthday parties can also be organized in the workshop room.

The museum is complimented by a free reading library, where children and adults can chill out and read Moomin books for as long as the Tampere Hall is open. There is also a souvenir shop with Moomin products and also hand-made crafts by Finnish designers, music by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra (it is also based at Tampere Hall), and Moomin postcards, which can be stamped with the special Moomin Museum postmark.

Visitors are not allowed to take photos in the museum due to copyright, except at the entrance hall inside the museum. There is also a special Moomin photo zone arranged right in the hall outside of the museum.
