The Olavinlinna fortress was built in 1475 to protect the eastern border of Sweden. The castle was restored and became open to tourists in the 1960s-1970s. There is a gift shop and an outdoor cafe. Various festivals and fairs are held here regularly: "Winter Festival", "Ice Festival", "Easter Fair", "Opera Festival", "The Day of the fortress", and others.
