The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage opened about 40 years ago, lost baby elephants were brought here from the forest. Today the Orphanage is the biggest in the world. There is a factory where elephant dung is recycled at turned into paper here. Visitors can buy notebooks are other paper object in the gift shop. Guests of the Orphanage are allowed to feed baby elephants from a bottle, touch them and take photos with them.

An elephant without a leg and a blind elephant, both suffered from a mine, also live here. This publication took part in the Photo Reviews Competition by KidsReview in 2013.
