The town is located on a hilltop overlooking the Alazani Valley. Sighnaghi is located in about a 2 hour drive by car from Tbilisi.

Sighnaghi is a popular tourist destination and a favorite place for weddings. Buildings with red roofs are built in the style of Italian houses, many of which are guest houses, cafes and restaurants. The fortress wall has been preserved in the city, there is a monastery, an archaeological museum, and the Pirosmani house-museum.
