The Smithsonian National Museum of American History is located on the National Mall in Washington DC. The museum is dedicated to the social, cultural, economic and technological development of the United States. In the themed halls of the museum, visitors can see the cylinder of President Lincoln, the American flag from 1795 with 15 stars and 15 stripes, the kitchen of Julia Child, the music scores of Duke Ellington, Dorothy's red shoes from the movie Wizard of Oz from 1939, and thousands of other exhibits.
The museum offers interactive exhibits, workshops, and guided tours. Families with kids can download the Family Guide prior to visit, or take a brochure at the info desk. There are two cafes and three souvenir shops at the museum.
The museum is open every day except December 25th. Entrance is free.
