The Gallen-Kallela Museum is shaped as a romantic castle with a tower overlooking the sea. The castle was built by the artist himself in 1911. The museum’s exhibitions present the art and life of Gallen-Kallela and his contemporaries, and present-day works of contemporary art. Gallen-Kallela is best knows for his Kalevala epos illustrations.

The museum is accompanied by the Tarvaspaa cafe, beautifully stationed up on a high sea shore, next to the castle. Down by the sea is an old Finnish-style smoke sauna, which is still used at times.

The museum offers programs for kids, treasure hunt tours and can organize birthday parties with a cultural and artistic twist.
