The museum was founded in 1993 in a historical building of the Finlayson cotton plant. Werstas Työväenmuseo is dedicated to the national and regional history of the working life in Finland. The complex includes the fascinating Steam Engine Museum with a real gigantic steam engine in the heart of it, a permanent printing machine exhibition, and an exhibition devoted to the Textile Industry (only open until 2017). Werstas Työväenmuseo regularly holds workshops for children, as well other visiting temporary exhibitions for the entire family.

Entrance to the museum is free for all. There is a gift and souvenir shop on the ground floor of the building.
